Everything you need to know before & after your dermal filler treatment
Pre-Treatment Checklist
Schedule your treatment at a time when minor swelling or bruising won’t interfere with important social obligations.
Discontinue blood-thinning medications and supplements 10 days before treatment, with your doctor’s approval. This includes Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Aleve, fish oil, Vitamin E, St. John’s Wort, and alcohol (24 hours prior).
Consider taking Arnica Montana supplements (5 tablets, 3 times daily) starting one week prior to help minimize bruising.
Notify your provider if you have a history of cold sores to discuss antiviral pre-medication.
Reschedule your appointment if you have open sores or any illness, dental work, surgery, or immunizations within the last 30 days.
Avoid treatment if pregnant, breastfeeding, or allergic to filler components.
Post-Treatment Instructions
Expect swelling, bruising, tenderness, or firmness at the injection site; these effects are temporary.
Avoid touching or applying makeup to the treated area until the day after treatment.
Do not massage or manipulate the injection sites.
Avoid strenuous exercise, tanning, or heat exposure for 24 hours.
Use ice packs for 15 minutes every hour during the first 12 hours to reduce swelling.
Sleep on your back with your head elevated for 24 hours to prevent product migration and reduce swelling.
Avoid dental work for 30 days after treatment.
Use Tylenol for any mild discomfort; avoid NSAIDs like ibuprofen or aspirin for 24 hours.
Refrain from facials, laser treatments, or other skin procedures for at least four weeks.
Consider medical-grade skincare products to enhance and maintain results; ask your provider for recommendations.
When to Contact Us
Seek immediate medical attention if you experience:
Dusky or white discoloration, mottling, or unusual bruising at the injection site
Severe or increasing pain, redness, warmth, or coolness to touch
Blisters, fever, or chills
Difficulty swallowing or smiling
Lip Injection Aftercare Tips
DOs:
Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water to support the healing process, but avoid using straws as they can apply pressure on the lips.
Apply Ice: Use an ice pack or ice cubes wrapped in a cloth to reduce swelling and bruising, especially during the first 48 hours.
Maintain Cleanliness: Keep your lips clean for the first 24-48 hours, washing your hands before touching your lips to prevent infection.
Light Activity: Engage in routine activities or light exercise like walking, but avoid strenuous workouts for 24-48 hours.
Healthy Habits: Eat fruits and vegetables, avoid excess sodium, and sleep with your head elevated to minimize swelling.
Pain Management: Consult your doctor about approved painkillers if needed, avoiding blood-thinning medications.
Lip Injection Aftercare Tips
DON’Ts:
No Makeup: Avoid lipstick or any makeup near your lips for 24 hours after treatment.
No Kissing: Refrain from kissing or applying pressure to your lips for 48 hours.
Avoid Heat: Stay away from hot showers, saunas, and steam rooms for at least 48 hours to prevent increased swelling.
No Pressure: Do not massage or press on your lips, as this can affect the filler.
Avoid Smoking & Alcohol: Refrain from smoking or drinking alcohol for 48 hours to minimize swelling and risk of infection.
No Air Travel: Wait at least a week before flying to avoid complications from air pressure changes.
Delay Dental Work: Avoid routine dental treatments for 2-3 weeks post-injection.
